TECNALIA strengthens its commitment to safety in construction and fire protection with Extended Application Reports (EXAP)

TECNALIA strengthens its commitment to safety and excellence in the construction and fire protection sector with Extended Application Reports (EXAP). These reports, which are essential for assessing the fire resistance of building materials and products, are crucial in order to ensure the safety of building systems and to protect lives in case of fire.

The world-renowned TECNALIA Fire Laboratory, prepares Extended Application (EXAP) reports under ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. This laboratory carries out these reports using an in-depth knowledge of the behaviour of materials and products under fire conditions, ensuring results of the highest quality and reliability. Its work increases building safety and fire protection worldwide.

Extended Application Reports (EXAP)

  • They are essential because they extend the scope of application beyond direct fire testing, providing a solid basis for third-party certification. This ensures greater national and international acceptance of TECNALIA’s activities in the field of fire safety. Thanks to these reports, companies and regulators can have confidence in the validity of products and materials being tested and assessed, thus strengthening TECNALIA’s position as a benchmark in this sector.
  • They have a wide scope in the construction sector, covering products such as doors, windows, curtains, blinds, shutters, partitions, false ceilings and façades.
  • These reports also apply to load-bearing elements such as concrete, timber and steel beams to ensure the integrity of the building in case of fire. Thanks to their versatility and ability to assess different types of materials and structures, EXAPs are essential in order to ensure safety and compliance in construction today.

European Standards EN 17020, EN 15254 and EN 15269

TECNALIA’s Fire Laboratory has begun the process of extending its accreditation to include EXAP standards for doors, walls, dropped ceilings, curtains and blinds. This process includes new series of European standards, namely EN 17020, EN 15254 and EN 15269. With this extension, the laboratory will be able to offer a broader spectrum of assessment and extension services, benefiting manufacturers and end-consumers.

By being accredited by these standards, the Fire Laboratory will be better equipped to help companies comply with European regulations and ensure safety in residential and commercial environments. The accreditation process is expected to be completed in the coming months, at which point the laboratory will be officially recognised to carry out assessments in accordance with these standards.
