"ANDECE is committed to sustainability which should lead to climate neutrality in Europe by 2050"
The Spanish pre-cast concrete sector is the first to obtain verification of its A-DAP IT tool issued by TECNALIA Certificación
Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) are documents that provide transparent information regarding the environmental performance of a product based on its Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) verified by an independent third party.
ANDECE, as an association representing manufacturers of all types of pre-casts for construction, carried out its first work back in 2018 with six sectoral environmental self-declarations for different categories of pre-cast concrete products (structures, forged products, façades, pipework, light hollow elements and paving), with the collaboration of the specialised consultancy firm, ABALEO S.L., in which a high percentage of the companies from the sector participated in its data collection process.
Thanks to all the knowledge acquired in that first process and, yet again, with the collaboration of ABALEO S.L., last year, ANDECE commissioned the development of an IT tool that would enable manufacturers to obtain their own environmental self-declarations of products directly, by introducing the different data required by the European reference standard, UNE-EN 16757, such as consumption of raw materials, energy and water, or possible waste generation.
As a result, a list of its environmental impact, energy consumption and waste generation is obtained, in relation to each tonne produced. This information is essential for companies to have a baseline in order to effectively undertake the necessary reforms leading to a gradual environmental optimisation of their production processes.
ANDECE received the certification of its IT tool to obtain specific ADAPs of pre-cast concrete products, being the first to be granted it in Spain.
In order to provide greater stringency and credibility to this information, ANDECE commissioned TECNALIA CERTIFICACIÓN to verify this IT tool. After a thorough audit process carried out in April and May, ANDECE obtained the certification of its IT tool to obtain ADAPs specifically for pre-cast concrete products on 10th June being the first of its kind to be granted in Spain.
With this milestone, it makes it easier for ANDECE's partner companies to produce their own environmental product declarations, information that is increasingly required in public and private construction projects.
