TECNALIA develops new foods based on functional ingredients that improve their nutritional quality

From 2021, three products developed by the Basque project AKTIBAL will be marketed

We have developed, together with companies Gastronomía CantábricaCárnicas Ibarra and Panaderías Bizkarra, three functional foods with the aim of improving people’s quality of life, by promoting a balanced diet that provides all the required nutrients.

These foods are pea protein-enriched bread, a range of sugar-free jams (apricot and raspberry) and a burger with a lipid profile (the type and amount of fat) that is improved by the incorporation of chia seeds. Chia helps to reduce the amount of saturated fatty acids and increase the amount of healthy fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated, such as omega-3). 

The new foods based on functional ingredients and low in fat and sugars derived from this project will help to reduce the incidence of certain diseases such as obesity and cardiovascular conditions in the general population.
