TECNALIA has become a key ally of companies following the recent entry into force of the European Cyber Resilience Act. This legal framework describes the cybersecurity requirements for hardware and software products with digital elements sold in the European Union. To comply this law, manufacturers must guarantee the safety of products throughout their life cycle.

Specific cybersecurity standards

Cybersecurity is essential for the continuity and resilience of organisations. Companies will need to implement specific security standards to protect their products against cyber threats following the recent adoption of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) by the European Union, Following its publication last October, it will start to to be implemented 36 months later, with some cases where it will be compulsory to comply with it.

The CRA sets out security requirements for companies that design, manufacture or distribute products with digital elements in the European Union. It is essential that SMEs start to adapt to these requirements.

CRA compliance assessment and planning

The first step that we recommend companies to take in order to comply with the CRA is to analyse their current situation in terms of the cybersecurity of their products. This will identify areas for improvement and specific needs to meet the requirements.

Following this assessment, the next step will be to define an action plan with concrete measures to progressively implement the requirements of the CRA and make progress towards obtaining future certification for those products to which it applies.
