“The functionalities of this solution help to optimise the demolition process and waste management, thus promoting greater circularity of resources”

TECNALIA is collaborating with Lezama Demoliciones to develop an innovative web tool that enables smart and more sustainable building demolitions

This tool is called BIM4DW (BIM for Demolition Waste) and is designed to facilitate pre-demolition audits. This tool makes it possible to quickly and accurately quantify types and quantities of materials in a building without prior information. This is made possible by an intuitive configurator that easily models a building from a 2D plan and classifies the elements into four levels, linking each element to the materials that are present. This solves one of the common difficulties in the sector: the lack of plans and information.

Optimising demolitions and improving circularity

The functionalities of this solution help to optimise the demolition process and waste management, thus promoting greater circularity of resources. In addition to demolition planning and waste management, the tool automatically estimates the costs and environmental impact of the work.

By implementing this solution, Lezama Demoliciones is able to work towards sustainability and the circular economy through technological innovation.

Construction and demolition waste in Europe

Construction and demolition waste is, by volume, the largest waste stream in the European Union, and the need to recover this waste is gradually increasing. Innovative and efficient solutions such as BIM4DW help to recover secondary raw materials in the building sector along the entire circular value chain.

Furthermore, with the increasing demand for recycled building materials, the use of recycled materials and suitable management of construction and demolition waste are business opportunities for the construction and recycling industry.
