"It is the result of a study carried out by TECNALIA at the request of Argiñola, the Elorrio Renewable Energy Cooperative"
TECNALIA has developed a digital map that shows the solar energy generation potential of buildings in Elorrio
The solar map of Elorrio is the result of a study carried out by TECNALIA at the request of Argiñola, the Elorrio Renewable Energy Cooperative. The map provides detailed information on each building.
This resource is a key tool for Elorrio's Renewable Energy Master Plan, which will be presented in 2025.
Solar map functionalities
Users can access the on-line map and zoom in to search for any house or building in Elorrio. By selecting a building, information is instantly provided on:
- Total constructed area of the building or plot.
- Useful surface area for the installation of photovoltaic panels.
- Installable power and potential energy generated.
- CO2 emissions avoided.
- Estimated cost of installation.
- Other use indicators to facilitate decision-making or prioritisation of surface areas.
Boosting renewable energies
This project is in line with European directives promoting Energy Communities and offers citizens the opportunity to collectively produce, consume, store, share and sell renewable energy. Basque Law 1/2024 on Energy Transition and Climate Change also supports these initiatives, to encourage society’s active role in the energy transition.
The analysis carried out by TECNALIA not only focuses on the roofs of buildings, but also considers the installation of solar technologies on contaminated land and car parks, taking into account the orography, the urban sector and the shade produced by constructed and natural elements.
The solar map of Elorrio is available for on-line consultation and provides energy and economic indicators calculated for each building or highlighted surface area. In this way, it facilitates the identification of opportunities for the development of renewable projects in the municipality.
