ICOE recognises the Basque Country’s solid position in the field of ocean energy
The International Conferences on Ocean Energy, the ICOEs, are events organised by Ocean Energy Systems, an organisation of the International Energy Agency, in collaboration with a local organisation, which promoted its bid. These conferences focus on the industrial development of marine renewable energies.
At the closing session of this year's edition, ICOE 2021, Arantxa Tapia, Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and Environment of the Basque Government, and Jose Ignacio Hormaeche, Director of the Energy Cluster Association (ACE) officially announced that the next edition of the ICOE will be held in the Basque Country.
This is the second time that the congress will have been held in the Basque Country; ICOE 2010 took place in Bilbao, at the BEC. As a result, this is recognition of the Basque Country's position in the field of ocean energy. The Basque Country has a complete value chain led by several converter developers, and a unique set of R&D infrastructures for testing and validating marine energy components and systems.
TECNALIA, together with other Basque entities, is involved in a number of important R&D initiatives and in active European collaboration projects in the field of wave energy, leading several of them.
