“Virtual reality, mixed reality and digital twin to improve work performance”
Along with Accenture, we are revolutionising electricity substations by introducing the metaverse into the electricity grid
TECNALIA and Accenture are working together on a project to implement metaverse concepts in real situations related to Iberdrola’s electrical substations . Through this joint project, we are working to implement the innovative concepts of the metaverse into real-world situations, bringing a cutting-edge and transformative approach to the electricity industry.
Interactive and multidimensional digital environment
The metaverse, a technology that has been gaining momentum in recent years, offers an interactive and multidimensional digital environment in which people can immerse themselves and collaborate in real time. This collaboration between TECNALIA and Accenture aims to harness the power of the metaverse to improve operations and performance at Iberdrola's electrical substations.
By combining technologies, such as virtual reality, mixed reality, digital twin and cloud rendering, the project aims to offer electrical substation workers a revolutionary experience. By implementing these metaverse concepts in real-life situations, it is expected to optimise maintenance processes, improve decision-making and increase operational efficiency in the electricity sector.
Operational efficiency in the electricity sector
- Safety: operators can be guided remotely in the field during maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Cost reduction: spatial analysis is facilitated (through a 3D digital twin) and understanding of the associated risks and implications of incidents.
- Time saving: a tool for real-time analysis and collaboration with experts through the metaverse is provided.
The initial results of this project were presented to the public during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in 2023.
