SusChem-Spain, the Technology and Innovation Platform for Sustainable Chemistry has announced the 13th Edition of its SusChem Awards. They recognise, support, encourage and foster scientific and informative activity among young Spanish researchers. They also drive, develop and raise awareness of the chemistry discipline, in terms of pure science and its applications.
The SusChem Awards, aimed at young chemical researchers under the age of 40, are divided into three different categories:
- Future: Award for the best academic record in a chemistry degree or any other related to science and chemical technologies, whose degree title was obtained in 2020. The prize is €2,000 and a year’s membership of SusChem-Spain and ANQUE.
- Research: Award to the author of the best scientific publication, dated 2020, in any area of chemistry, and who held the PhD qualification on 31st December 2020. The prize is €3,000 and a year’s membership of SusChem-Spain and ANQUE.
- Innovate: Award for the best work developed from a public-private collaboration. The work submitted must have generated results in the last three years in any area related to sustainable chemistry, including work on the transition to the circular economy and decarbonisation. The prize is €5,000 and a year’s membership of SusChem-Spain and ANQUE, as well as an internship at the TECNALIA applied chemistry research laboratories depending on its industrial feasibility, market potential and agreement between stakeholders. As an alternative, the researcher may opt for mentoring by Venture Builder Deep Tech TECNALIA Ventures, focused on improving his/her skills in the field of technological entrepreneurship.
Submission Deadline
- The deadline to submit documentation to participate in this 2021 edition is 5pm (CET) on 31st May. Participants must submit their applications via the SusChem-Spain website.

Since they first started in 2008, the SusChem Awards have recognised the work of 50 young chemistry researchers, from among more than 900 applications submitted. They highlight the work of these promising young chemistry researchers, both within and beyond our borders. They show the promising pool of researchers under the age of 40 in Spain, mainly in the Innovate and Research categories. They highlight the excellence of chemistry students and those of similar disciplines with extraordinary student records, which are evaluated in the Future category.
The jury is made up of reputed professionals from the field of business and industrial management, as well as from the scientific, academic and institutional environment. Winners will be personally notified of its decision, which will also be announced on the website of the Technology and Innovation Platform for Sustainable Chemistry SusChem–Spain, as well as on the websites of the rest of the organisers. Its decision is final and will be announced no later than 15th July 2021.
