“During the event, we were able to see our floating laboratory up close, a unique facility to test developments in the offshore sector”
On 20th June, we held Harshlab Day with tests in our HarshLab floating laboratory.
On 20th June, we held another edition of HarshLab Day, a meeting we hold to raise awareness of our HarshLab floating laboratory through use cases carried out for our customers since its installation in summer 2018.
Presentations at the event
- During the meeting, María Alonso and Pablo Benguria briefly presented the characteristics and potential applications of the HarshLab, and the environment in which it is located (BiMEP).
- This was followed by the presentation of two strategic R&D projects funded by the Basque Government in which HarshLab plays a major role (INTEGRIA and EKIOCEAN).
- The NATURSEA project, funded by the European Union, was also presented, ending with a series of presentations in which representatives from NAUTILUS, HEMPEL, ERREKA, LUMIKER, DRAGADOS and DITREL explained the tests carried out, the results obtained, and why testing in a real offshore environment like the HarshLab has boosted to their innovative activity and is a competitive advantage.
Topics and final visit
The topics discussed during the day included:
- The future of ocean energy.
- Sensors as a basic tool to reduce the cost of any structure in an offshore environment.
- The potential of floating photovoltaic energy.
- The challenges posed to materials by the new requirements of sea survival for offshore wind power.
The Day ended with a boat trip to the HarshLab, anchored 1.6 miles from the port of Armintza.
