Promotion of the wood-based construction value chain as a key part of a circular bioeconomy in Europe. It encompasses the initial transformation of wood, construction and building activities, production side streams, re-use and recycling.
The construction sector in Europe represents one of the biggest sources of waste, with approximately 70,5 million tons of wood waste generated annually. Currently, around one third of waste wood is recycled.
The objectives of the Woodcircus Project include the compilation of existing empirical knowledge and practical know-how to establish a state-of-the-art overview of the value chain in the wood-based construction sector. It also identifies and disseminates good practices and innovative solutions to optimize the use of forest resources throughout the value chain, as well as raising public awareness.
Various stakeholder groups are closely engaged at every stage of the project. Besides the technical aspects, we have addressed regulatory issues of the legal framework bounding wood construction and associated sectors.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme, under Grant Agreement No. 820892.
