Hojas de ruta de adaptación y resiliencia al cambio climático en ciudades

“TECNALIA makes it easy for decision-makers to create their own adaptation roadmaps through a step-by-step manual”

Climate change adaptation roadmaps help manage uncertainty and facilitate the planning of measures to increase resilience

Flexible adaptation roadmaps are tools that take into account uncertainty when planning for the deployment and implementation of climate change adaptation measures. This avoids implementing them too early or too late and ensures that their scope is suitable, avoiding under- or over-deployment of measures to address climate risks.

Such flexible adaptation roadmaps are becoming increasingly important in Europe. TECNALIA has been working on the methodological development of this tool for more than ten years and is currently a key centre for transferring it to the practical reality of regions and cities.

In the current climate crisis, there is no accurate knowledge of the magnitude of the impacts that will occur on a regional level, nor of the timescale over which they will occur. In this context, it is essential to use methodologies that aid decision-making, taking into account this uncertainty. This will allow effective progress to be made in the implementation of adaptive policies.

Roadmap creation manual

In order to make it easier for decision-makers to create their own action plan, TECNALIA has developed a viewer and a manual. These resources, developed as part of the ARCH project, provide clear steps and advice to create a roadmap that is understandable, accessible and easy to implement.

Adaptation in cities

The technology centre is working on developing adaptation roadmaps in collaboration with cities such as Antwerp, Bilbao, Manchester and Valencia. In these cities, different climate risks and local challenges are addressed on the urban scale.

Nature-based solutions

Nature-based solutions are very useful and cost-effective tools to address climate risks in cities and regions. The recently launched NBracer project will incorporate these solutions into roadmaps for improving the climate resilience of regions in the European Atlantic area.
