Development and validation of new bio-ingredients, particularly technological and functional proteins from green algae, and by-products from legume processing and brown algae for high added value markets.
In this project, more sustainable and affordable protein supply chains are developed from alternative terrestrial and aquatic sources of protein, for the formulation of food and animal feed, complying with consumer and industrial requirements.
The objectives are to:
- Establish an optimised marine algae biorefinery to obtain proteins with maximum extraction performance, at a laboratory scale in terms of quality and quantity.
- Develop an optimised biorefinery based on legume by-products to obtain proteins with maximum extraction performance, at a laboratory scale in terms of quality and quantity.
- Scale the optimised processes through modelling and ecological design tools.
- Validate the proteins from green algae for use in food.
- Validate brown algae proteins and legume sources for use in food.
